Men's Basketball Cruises Past Rutgers-Camden, 94-62

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State men's basketball team, who are receiving votes in the D3hoops.com Top-25 Poll, notched their sixth consecutive win with a 94-62 triumph over Rutgers-Camden Saturday.
 
STEVEN BREEMAN led Montclair (6-0, 2-0 NJAC) with 15 points as Cameron Downs tallied a game-high 18 for the Scarlet Raptors (2-6, 0-3 NJAC).
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After falling behind 3-0, Montclair notched nine of the following 10 points to take the lead back for good. During the opening stretch, MIKE JACKSON, DEVIN COOPER, and Breeman hit from behind the arc.
  • The Scarlet Raptors closed within two at 14-12 on a Downs layup, but a 10-0 Montclair spurt opened the lead double digits. Montclair State limited Rutgers-Camden to just one field goal over eight minutes, taking the gap from two to 16 points.
  • SAMAR ABDULLAH converted a pair from the charity stripe with 1:03 left to extend the gap to 31, yet the Scarlet Raptors notched the final three points to enter halftime with a 28-point advantage.
  • Montclair shot a blistering 63.33% (19-of-30) from the floor, including 9-of-16 from three in the opening 20 minutes.
  • The hosts took their largest lead of the game on a FRANCISCO PAULINO bucket at the 13:06 mark of the second, but a 7-0 Camden run cut into the lead a bit.
  • Rutgers-Camden got to within 23, but Montclair ended the game on a 12-6 run, with HENRY MEYERS hitting a pair of trifectas late in the contest.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • KYREE HENRY added 11 points off the bench to join Breeman in double figures as the Red Hawk reserves poured in 55 points.
  • KIERAN FLANAGAN chipped in five points, six assists, and six rebounds, with TYSON ALLEN adding eight points in just nine minutes.

The Red Hawks visit William Paterson on Wednesday, with tip-off scheduled for 8 pm.
