KIERAN FLANAGAN scored 15 points with senior
STEVEN BREEMAN adding 13 as Montclair State posted its second straight victory with a 69-55 win at Rutgers-Camden on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Irving Callender chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds as the Red Hawks improved to 12-7 on the year, 9-6 in the NJAC as it remains in fourth place in the conference standings.
The Red Hawks trailed 13-6 in the early portion of the game, but reeled off a 14-point run to take the lead. Callender got it going with a three-pointer and three's by
MIKE JACKSON and
KEYON PRYCE put Montclair in front 15-12.
GREG ECK made it four in a row at the 11-minute mark before Flanagan's layp made the score 20-13 with 10:44 left.
Eck and Jackson would hit again from behind the arc late in the period to extend the Red Hawks' lead to 38-24 with 3:13 to go before halftime.
AMIR WILLIAMS gave MSU its largest lead of the half at 18 points (42-24) with Montclair State taking a 43-29 lead into halftime.
Rutgers-Camden chipped away at the lead and pulled within five points on two occasions in the second half. The last coming with 6:45 remaining on a layup by Tyree Mann-Barnes making the score 56-51. Breeman ignited a 10-0 run over the next three minutes by MSU. Pryce had a three with Flanagan converting a three-point play for a 64-51 advantage with 2:51 left. Callender's layup capped the run.
Flanagan added seven rebounds and three assists. Eck totaled nine point with three steals and
DEVIN COOPER handed out seven assists.
Montclair returns to action on Wednesday, February 12 hosting Rutgers-Newark at the Panzer Athletic Center. Tipoff of the second meeting between the teams this season is scheduled for 8:00 pm. MSU won the first game 62-59 in Newark on January 5.
