Seven Straight for Montclair; Red Hawks Win, 74-51

Carter Collects 26 as MSU Rolls Past Raptors

Camden, NJ – Junior guard NICKIE CARTER pumped in 26 points as Montclair State remained on a roll with a 74-51 over Rutgers-Camden on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Hawks (13-7, 11-4 NJAC) posted their seventh straight victory while maintaining their hold on third place in the conference standings with three games to play. TRISHA PETERSON recorded an all-around solid performance with seven points, 14 rebounds, six assists, and five steals.

Jalissa Pitts and Rahzirah Blocker had 19 and 16 points respectively for Rutgers-Camden (2-14, 1-14 NJAC).

Montclair led from tip to final buzzer and pulled out a nine-point lead after one quarter. ANNIE WALSH drained a three-pointer with 1:25 left, and a MEGAN DUFFY layup in the last minute gave the Red Hawks a 23-14 heading into the second quarter.

The Scarlet Raptors trimmed the deficit back by a point, out-scoring MSU 15-14 in the second. However, Montclair State took control in the third with an 11-2 run to begin the period. Carter and JULIA SUTTON combined for all 11 points. Carter had the first five, including a three-pointer for a 42-29 lead with 8:50 to play. Sutton added the next four with two free throws by Carter, who also dished out five assists, capping the run as the Red Hawks led 48-31 with 5:10 left.

Rutgers-Camden pulled within 50-39 on a Salina Jones jumper with two minutes to go, but Montclair pulled away with a 10-2 spurt to close out the period. Sutton scored four, including a layup ahead of the buzzer, as Montclair held a 60-41 advantage.

Sutton finished with 10 points while KENDALL HODGES and Duffy scored seven apiece. Walsh added six along with three rebounds.

Montclair State returns home to the Panzer Athletic Center for its next contest. The Red Hawks host Rutgers-Newark on Wednesday, February 12, on Senior Night. Montclair will honor its five – Peterson, Sutton, KELLY SMITH, Walsh and RYLEE MULLIGAN, and assistant coach Dora Duguay.
