Women's Basketball: Game Day Preview vs. Rutgers-Newark

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State women's basketball team visits Rutgers Camden for a New Jersey Athletic Conference matchup Saturday afternoon.

GAME INFO
Tipoff inside the Panzer Athletic Center is scheduled for 6 pm, with live stats and video links available on montclairathletics.com. Video can also be found on the Red Hawk Sports Network YouTube Channel. Before the game, the Red Hawks will honor the 2022 Senior Class; student-assistant coach Dora Duguay, RYLEE MULLIGAN, ANNIE WALSH, KELLY SMITH, TRISHA PETERSON, and JULIA SUTTON.

LAST TIME OUT
The Red Hawks (13-7, 11-4 NJAC) notched their seventh straight victory with a 74-51 triumph over Rutgers-Camden Saturday. Aside from ties at 2-2 and 4-4, the Red Hawks led wire-to-wire and were led by a game-high 26 points from NICKIE CARTER. TRISHA PETERSON filled the stat sheet with seven points, six assists, five steals, and 14 rebounds. Rookie OLIVIA VERO swatted six shots in the victory and averaged nearly 5.0 blocks per game in a 3-0 week for MSU.

SCOUTING THE SCARLET RAIDERS
The Scarlet Raiders enter with a 4-15 record and a 2-13 mark within the NJAC. They are in the midst of a two-game losing streak, having been knocked off by Ramapo College and Rowan University. They fell to Rowan 73-47 on Saturday night, trailing 19-1 after the first quarter. Samiyah Horton scored 17 points as Ebony Odom Barnes, and Tracey Illderis grabbed eight rebounds.

LAST MEETING
The Red Hawks cruised to a 65-39 win in their last meeting on February 12, 2020. Alex McKinnon scored 16 points to lead three players in doubles figures, as KAYLA BUSH and Cerys MacLelland grabbed 11 boards. After leading by seven at halftime, the Red Hawks broke the game open by outscoring Rutgers-Newark 43-24 in the second half.

SERIES HISTORY
The Red Hawks are 64-7 all-time against Rutgers-Newark and are currently riding a 20-game winning streak over their Essex County neighbors. Within the friendly confines of the Panzer Athletic Center, they are 34-1, with the lone setback coming on January 21, 1992. Rutgers-Newark tallied wins in back-to-back games on February 12, 2011, and November 30, 2011. That second matchup went 73-72, as Kendra Johnson hit a three-pointer with nine seconds to go to give Newark the one-point win.
