MSU Races Past Lycoming for Fifth Straight Victory, 16-8

Tyler McCreery Four Goals, Four Assists

Montclair, NJ – Junior TYLER MCCREERY scored four goal and assisted four times as Montclair State extended its winning streak to five games with a 16-8 victory over Lycoming College at Sprague Field on Saturday afternoon.

JOE COVINO and Matt Holland had two goals and an assist each as MSU improved to 5-2 on the season winning the first matchup between the schools since 2000.

MSU put the first two goals on the board as Holland and McCreery connected in the first minute of the game. The Warriors (3-4) however tallied the next four goals, the last by Owen Zimmerman with 3:57 left giving he visitors at 4-1 lead. MATT DANCSECS stopped the run, but Rory Hines' goal a minute later made the score 5-3. Covino added a second goal with 1:13 to play as MSU trailed 5-4 heading into the second quarter.

Andrew Dede and Troy Scozzafava recorded the first two goals of the new period pushing its lead to 7-4 with seven minutes to play. However, that would be the last goal the Warriors would get until the closing minutes of the game.

Meanwhile, Montclair State would run off 11 in a row, starting with a WILSON SMITH goal with 5:27 left. CONNOR GABILANES found the back of the net twice, the second a man-up goal with 2:08 left knotting the game at 7-7. McCreery scored with 46 seconds left giving the Red Hawks an 8-7 advantage at the break.

McCreery continued the scoring barrage in the third with the first two goals as the lead grew to 10-7. Holland and Covino added goals to finish out the third for a five-goal advantage heading into the final period.

Goals by THOMAS ROPER and ANDREA FIORENZA early in the fourth upped the lead to 14-7. McCreery would set up brother MIKE MCCREERY for the last goal before Scozzafava finally broke the Montclair State streak with 4:20 left. ETHAN MOUNIER recorded the last Red Hawks tally.

DAVID METZGER made 14 saves for MSU. DAVID DRISCOLL and Fiorenza combined to go 21-of-28 at the "X" with 13 ground balls. Smith registered four ground balls and forced four turnovers. JACK GRECO totaled three caused turnovers and four ground balls.

The Red Hawks have the week off and return to action next Saturday, March 26 on the road at Delaware Valley. First meeting between the two since 2018 is set to begin at 3:00 pm.
