Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State softball team notched a doubleheader sweep against Stevens, winning 4-1 and 3-0 Wednesday afternoon.
The Ducks drew first blood in the top of the fifth. After a pair of walks, the runners moved up a base on a wild pitch. Cavallaro threw another wild pitch, but the runner was tagged out trying to score by Sibilio. Lexi Gregule singled home the first run of the game with a knock to left field with two outs.
The Red Hawks grabbed their first lead of the game in the home half of the frame. Pinch hitter
EMILY JACOBS led off the inning with a single up the middle.
ALYSSA BOROZAN dropped down a bunt to move the runner over, but the throw was off line and allowed
ANNALESA DILAURENZIO to hurry over to third. Meluso flew out but DiLaurenzio scampered home.
KAYLA COSENTINO stepped up and doubled to right-center with two outs, scoring Borozan. The runs kept coming as
AMBER REED launched a double off the wall in left, scoring two runners.
After a scoreless two and a third innings in game two, the Red Hawks broke through for three runs in the bottom of the third. After DiLaurenzio walked with one out, Borozan and Meluso singled to load the bases. Cosentino hit a liner that glanced off the third basemen's glove for an infield that allowed DiLaurenzio to score. Sibilio was up next and dunked a liner down the right-field line, plating Borozan and Meluso.

KAYLA VOLANTE allowed just three hits through the five innings, with just one leaving the infield. She was aided by a double-play in the fifth inning that erased a one-out walk. Alex Schoellig hit a grounder up the that was fielded by Borozan, who stepped on the bag and fired to first for a 6-3 double-play.
Borozan had a pair of hits in game one while Reed drove in a pair of runs. Cavallaro fanned 10 batters in the circle, her third game of the season with 10 or more strikeouts. Meluso and Cosentino tallied two hits in game two, as Volante matched a season-high with six strikeouts and scattered three hits in a complete-game shutout.
The Red Hawks return to action on Saturday, opening New Jersey Athletic Conference action against Rutgers-Newark at the MSU Softball Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 1 pm.
