ALI CAVALLARO and
KAYLA VOLANTE did not allow a run and just seven total hits as Montclair State swept its two games at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic on Tuesday afternoon.
The Red Hawks (3-1) blanked Salem College, 8-0 before completing the day with a 10-0 victory against Anna Maria College.
AMBER REED and
JENNA MELUSO each drove in two runs in the first game with
DANIELLE DECARLO plating a pair of runs in the nightcap.
Cavallaro (2-0), who opened the year with a no-hitter on Monday, tossed her second consecutive shutout. The righthander gave up three hits and struck out five.
Montclair State snapped a scoreless tie in the fourth inning with two runs.
KATIE DEBELL drove home
KAYLA COSENTINO with a base hit and Reed followed with an RBI single. The Red Hawks extended the lead to 5-0 in the sixth. Meluso had the big hit, a two-run single that scored Reed and DeBell.
ALEXIS LAW tripled in a run in the seventh with Reed collecting and RBI single for a 7-0 advantage.
ALYSSA BOROZAN drove in the final run with an infield single.
Meluso, DeBell and Reed each had three hits to pace Montclair State's 13- hit attack.
In the second game against Anna Maria, Volante (1-0) struck out two in her four-hit shutout. Borozan and Meluso had two hits apiece for MSU, which jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning as it took advantage of two errors.
Law delivered a run in the second on fielder's choice and RBIs by Borozan and Meluso widened the lead to 7-0. DeCarlo tripled in two runs in the fourth.
Montclair State is back in action in Myrtle Beach on Wednesday, March 9. The Red Hawks take on Lebanon Valley at 9:30 am and face Penn College at 1:30 pm.
