Bryn Athyn, PA – One night after becoming the ninth player to score 200 career points, junior
TYLER MCCREERY made more history on Thursday scoring six times as Montclair State closed out its regular-season schedule with a 23-3 victory over Bryn Athyn.
McCreery became the second player in program history to record 100 career goals and register 100 career assists as the Red Hawks (11-4) posted their fifth straight win and finished out its league slate at 5-1. McCreery joined Kevin Gondres in that exclusive club. Gondres put up 106 goals and 115 assists from 2002-2005.
Not to be outdone, brother
MIKE MCCREERY, who had seven assists, set a new single-game record with nine caused turnovers, one more than former All-American Ryan Young registered against Stevens in 2014.
MSU scored eight times in the first quarter, as
MIKE MCCREERY assisted on the first three tallies, including two to brother Tyler in the contests' first five minutes.
JOE COVINO had a goal and
CHRISTIAN BOYLE added another 31 seconds later for a 5-0 advantage,
TYLER MCCREERY got the hat trick with 6:17 left and goals by
CONNOR GABILANES and Boyle late in the quarter staked Montclair to an 8-0 lead.
MATT DANCSECS got the first two goals of the second when the Red Hawks put up eight more. Gabilanes found the back of the net again with seven minutes left with
TYLER MCCREERY's fourth goal widening the lead to 12-0. Defenseman
WILSON SMITH got in the scoring act with an unassisted tally with 4:33 to play.
TYLER MCCREERY closed out the half with his final two goals, the history-making one coming with 53 ticks before halftime.
Boyle, Dancsecs and Gabilanes each had three goals with
CHRISTIAN DROPP totaling two along with an assist.
MIKE MCCREERY also had an outstanding day defensively forcing nine turnovers. Goalkeeper
DAVID METZGER stopped six shots in three quarters before
JACK HAEMMERLE made one in the final quarter.
Montclair State will now turn its attention to the CSAC Tournament which begins on Tuesday, May with semifinal action. MSU, the No. 2 seed hosts third-seeded Kean at 7:00 pm in what will be their second meeting in six days. Montclair defeated the Cougars on Wednesday evening, 16-11 to clinch the No. 2 spot.
