Montclair, NJ – The No. 20 Montclair State men's soccer team scored twice in a 29-second span in the first half and cruised to a 3-0 victory over Moravian Wednesday evening.
The Red Hawks (3-0-3) outshot Moravian (0-5-1) 22-5 and 10-0 in shots on goal.
Goalkeeper Andrew Remias made early saves on
CHRIS FONTANAZZA and
JOSIAH CRAWFORD before the Red Hawks struck in the 14th minute.
JUSTIN GOLDBERG retrieved a ball on the far side and slipped a pass into Crawford. Crawford saved the ball from going out and sent it back to
JANBI KAGHADO, who flicked his foot out and scored his first goal of the season. The Red Hawks doubled their lead 29-ticks later after
OWEN MURPHY intercepted a pass in the defensive third. Murphy passed to Crawford, who dribbled into the box before firing a laser past Remias for his second of the year.
Staked to the lead, Montclair State held Moravian to one shot in the first half.
AMER LUKOVIC had an additional blast on frame in the 36th minute but was denied by Remias. Looking for a third goal,
GENE CARLO ALTAMIRANO's attempt off a corner rang off the crossbar in the 70th minute.
ANTHONY VIOLA had his try stopped in the 78th minute, and the rebound went out for a corner kick. Off the corner,
IAN CHESNEY had his first try glance off the pipe, but the carom bounced right back to the sophomore. He volleyed that chance into the back of the goal for his second of the year to cap off the scoring.
BORIS DEL VALLE earned his third clean sheet of the season and did not have to make a save for his third win. Lukovic tallied a game-high six shots while Crawford added three in the victory.
The Red Hawks visit Vassar on Saturday for a 2 pm showdown with the Brewers.
