Amerman Scores Twice As Field Hockey Tops RPI, 3-0

Montclair, NJ – CARLY AMERMAN tallied the first two-goal game of her career to lead the Montclair State field hockey team past RPI 3-0 Sunday.

LINSEY CHAMPA had the first two opportunities of the game for MSU as her reverse chip shots were just off the mark. Champa assisted on the first goal at the 2:05 mark of the opening frame, as she fed CARLIE VAN TASSEL down low for the opening goal. Montclair goalkeeper LAUREN PICKUL was rarely tested in the first, needing to make one stop. The team nearly broke through for a second tally early in the second, but Champa was stopped, and Van Tassel hit the post.

Off a penalty corner in the third quarter, GAB MAISTO inserted and found Amerman at the top of the circle. Amerman fired a shot that went in for her second goal of the season. Montclair State continued to apply pressure, but a defensive save by Kendra Patterson kept the score 2-0. 10 seconds later, Maisto inserted a corner, and off a scrum, rookie KELLY WESTERVELT poked the ball to Amerman, who netted her second of the day. The Red Hawk defense clamped down and surrendered just two shots on goal the remainder of the game to earn the 3-0 triumph.

Champa and Amerman combined for nine shots, while Pickul denied three chances by RPI.

The Red Hawks return to action Saturday as they head to Annville, Pa., to face off against Lebanon Valley College at 5 pm.
