Football: Gameday Preview vs. Thiel

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State football team hosts Thiel College in the season-opener Saturday afternoon.

YEAR 40
The Red Hawks are led by Head Coach Rick Giancola, who enters his 40th season at the helm. He enters the 2022 campaign as the active winningest coach in Division III and is fourth among all NCAA coaches. He has led MSU to 11 NJAC titles and nine NCAA Division III Tournament appearances.

2021 IN REVIEW
The Red Hawks picked up three wins last season, including a last-second 23-22 triumph over Route 46 rival William Paterson. BRENNAN RAY was named to D3Football All-Region Team, while DORIAN GASHI was tabbed as the NJAC Defensive Rookie of the Year.

SCOUTING THIEL
The Tomcats went 0-10 last season and have not a game since defeating Bethany 28-13 in 2017. Owen Trumbull threw a pair of touchdown passes and accounted for two more on the ground last year, while Darien Mosley and Randall Miller each picked off two passes.
