Swimming & Diving Topples William Paterson In Regular Season Finale

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State swimming and diving teams claimed 17 first-place finishes en route to a sweep of William Paterson in Tuesday's regular-season finale.

JULIE TIEDEMANN recorded a Panzer Pool record time in the 1,650-freestyle, as she won in 18:26.95. The men's team (6-2, 2-2 NJAC) notched a 124-71 triumph as the women's team (7-3, 3-2 NJAC) picked up a 153-58 victory.

MEN'S RECAP

The Red Hawks started strong, picking up the first three spots in the 200-medley relay. LUCAS MIGLIN, RYAN KAPPES, SPENSER DUBOIS, and JOHN ENGLERT were first in 1:45.83, as JARED GAYNOR, JOHN MORRIS, ANTHONY FERRARO, and BRANDON DO clocked in second in 1:47.35. Rounding out the trio were MATT DETTLINGER, DENNIS DELARGY, DANIEL BARTSEVICH, and CHRYSTIAN MUHLEISEN were third.
Kappes tallied an individual victory in the 1,650-freestyle (17:09.54), with SEAN NUGENT, STEPHEN BARNARD, and Gaynor behind him. Bartsevich registered victories in the 200-free (1:53.61), and 100-backstroke (58.41) as DeLargy won the 50-free (23.13) and 100-free (50.39).
After Do earned a triumph in the 400-IM (4:30.84), JOHN ENGLERT led the top-three times in the 100-butterfly. Englert won in 55.25, with Morris (57.91) and ADRIAN GONZALEZ (58.73) behind him to finish the first-place times.

WOMEN'S RECAP

After Tiedemann's victory, ROURKE PERALTA led three Red Hawks to top times in the 200-free. The rookie clocked in at 2:03.43, with KATE CIPOLETTI placing second (2:04.49) and AVA MAFFUCCI third (2:08.73). JULIANA SKOPP-CARDILLO notched a win in the 50-free (26.06) before JULIET DI PASQUALE was victorious in the 400-IM (4:52.7)
The Red Hawk divers claimed first and second in the 1-meter dive, as AUDREY HITCHENS scored 144.9 and EMMA BOWERS tallied a mark of 141.55. SARAH BENT and GIANNA ANTONELLI went 1-2 in the 100-fly, with Bent winning by .45 seconds.
CATTY GEYER notched a win in the 100-free (56.89) with ABBY BROCK and SOPHIA SHOPOVICK behind her. ERIN BARRETT (100-backstroke – 1:03.42) and Skopp-Cardillo (500-freestyle – 5:37.95) capped off the swimming wins before Hitchens scored 200.05 in the second session of diving.

I also thought our divers did a tremendous job tonight, with freshman AUDREY HITCHENS having her best performance of the year by far!" - Head Coach Brian McLaughlin.
