Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State swimming and diving teams battle Drew University on Saturday afternoon.

LAST TIME OUT
The women's team opened the year with a 166-96 win over Stevens on October 7, as the men's team fell 150-112. The Red Hawks grabbed the first two places in the 1,000-freestyle as newcomer KACIE GADZINSKI notched a victory in 11:25.6. JULIE TIEDEMANN was behind her in second with a mark of 11:31.2. Montclair claimed the top-three spots in the 200-free as ROURKE PERALTA was first in 2:01.01. Tiedemann took second (2:04.32), and CATTY GEYER was third (2:05.68). SOPHIA SHOPOVICK recorded victories in the 100-backstroke (1:01.45) and 200-back (2:17.68), as Peralta registered wins in the 50-free (24.52) and 100-free (55.06). ABBY BROCK claimed first in the 100-breaststroke (1:09.87), with rookie MARIANNE TASSINARI gaining wins in the 200-breaststroke (2:35.94) and 200-IM (2:17.36). On the men's side, LUCAS GOMES and SPENSER DUBOIS tallied back-to-back victories, with Gomes winning the 100-back (53.57) and Dubois the 100-breaststroke (58.98). Gomes picked up his second triumph of the day in the 50-free as he edged his Stevens competitor in the 50-free, touching the wall in 22.07. RYAN KAPPES and SEAN NUGENT went 2-3 in the 1,000-free as Kappes notched a mark of 10:38.47 and Nugent had 10:49.54. LUCAS MIGLIN took second in the 200 free (1:50.98), with teammate MICHAEL WOJCIECHOWICZ behind him in 1:51.72.

SCOUTING DREW
The Rangers' men's team picked up a 167-126 victory over Catholic on October 14, as the women's side was clipped 148.5-142.5. The men's team had 10 wins in 16 events, including Nicholas Heinio-Widell winning four and Finn Armitt winning two individual events and two relays. Katerina Poulathas notched three wins as Sam Trodick picked up two victories.

SERIES HISTORY
The men's team is 23-5 against Drew and won 16 meets in a row from 2003 – 2017. The women's side is 24-4, winning 18 consecutive matchups from 2003 – 2019.

LAST MEETING
Montclair swept the Rangers last year, with the men winning 148-132 and the women notching a 160-136 triumph. SOPHIA SHOPOVICK put the Red Hawks in the win column in the 100-backstroke, as she notched a time of 1:02.04 before ABBY BROCK won the 100-breaststroke in 1:10.17. Rookie CATTY GEYER captured second in the 200-butterfly (2:19.5) before classmate ROURKE PERALTA clipped Grace Aboussleman in the 50-freestyle. Peralta touched the wall in 24.89, .4 seconds quicker than her opponent. LILI SHAY and Brock finished within .4 seconds of one another in the 200-breast before Tiedemann notched a win in the 500-free (5:32.63). Peralta recorded her second win of the day, finishing in 1:02.37 in the 100-fly, with Geyer claiming second. Geyer won the 200-IM cap off victories for MSU, as the team finished off the day with a second-place time of 3:48.61 in the 400-freestyle relay. RYAN KAPPES and SEAN NUGENT went 1-2 in the 1,000-freestyle. Kappes clocked in at 10:17.78, with Nugent behind him at 10:24.91. DeLargy picked up a win in the 200-back (2:03.13) before SPENSER DUBOIS (2:14.52), and BRANDON DO (2:15.08) went 1-2 in the 200-breaststroke. Nugent was victorious in the 500 free, as he notched a time of 4:58.55. Do capped off the victories for Montclair State with a time of 2:03.98 in the 200-IM.

Montclair returns to the Panzer Pool next Friday to host Vassar at 6 pm.
