No. 11 Men's Soccer Clinches NJAC Regular Season Title In 5-0 Win Over Rutgers-Camden

Camden, NJ - The No. 11 Montclair State University men's soccer team defeated Rutgers-Camden 5-0 on Saturday afternoon to clinch the 2023 NJAC Regular Season Title.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (14-2-1, 8-0-0 NJAC) struck early as AMER LUKOVIC made a run up the middle and sent in a shot into the left portion of the net. Rutgers-Camden tallied its lone shot on goal a minute later that was gathered by SHANE KEENAN.
  • Montclair doubled its advantage in the 25th minute as OSBIN MENDEZ set up REED KARSEN on the right side of the field, who capitalized on the opportunity. The visitors added their third in the 37th minute as ANDRE SHELTON finished off a pass from OWEN MURPHY.
  • Montclair found their fourth of the first half in the 42nd minute, as SALEM ELLISY scored off a cross from ANDRE SHELTON. The Red Hawks scored their fifth and final goal of the game in the 74th minute as CHRIS FONTANAZZA struck right in front of the net.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Montclair has finished top of the conference in each of the past four seasons. The victory clinched the program's second straight NJAC Regular Season Title.
  • Lukovic increased his nation-leading goal total to 26, which is two off the program's single-season record. He has scored in all but one game this season.
  • Shelton's goal was his fifth, moving him into sole possession of second on the team.
  • The goal for Karsen was his fourth of the season, while Ellisy and Fontanazza each tallied their second.
  • The Red Hawks outshot the Scarlet Raptors 27-6 and held a 14-1 advantage in shots on goal.
  • Keenan and BORIS DEL VALLE combined for the team's eighth shutout of the season.
