Women's Basketball Clipped By King's In Home Opener

Montclair, N.J. - The Montclair State University women's basketball team was clipped by King's College 42-36 Wednesday night at the Panzer Athletic Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (1-2) closed out the first quarter on a 6-0 spurt, as TERESA WOLAK had four points, and AVERY JACKSON ended the run with a layup. ISABELLA ORLANDO continued the run with a layup, opening the second stanza, as the Red Hawks' defense stymied the Monarchs for nearly 10 minutes of action, bridging the first and second periods.
  • King's opened up a five-point lead early in the third before a 7-0 spurt extended the gap to double digits. The Red Hawks trimmed the margin to four 42 seconds into the fourth on a fastbreak layup from SHANNON HUGHES.
  • An Orlando triple and a layup from OLIVIA VERO brought the score to 39-36 with 4:51 left, but Monarchs held Montclair without a point the remainder of the way to seal the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Orlando finished with a team-high 14 points. She is the only Red Hawk to score in double-figures in all three contests this season.
  • Vero recorded a career-high 12 rebounds in the game. She has tallied double-figure rebounds in two of Montclair's three games.
  • The Red Hawks held a 49-42 advantage on the boards and forced 22 King's turnovers.
FROM THE COURT
"It wasn't great from us on the offensive end tonight. We just didn't have it today, and King's took advantage. Luckily, we have two days of practice before the next game." - Head Coach Karin Harvey,
