Men's Basketball Clips NJCU In Overtime, 83-82

Montclair, N.J. - The Montclair State University men's basketball team clipped New Jersey City University 83-82 in overtime on Tuesday night at the Panzer Athletic Center. 

The game marked both sides' 2023-24 New Jersey Athletic Conference opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (3-1, 1-0 NJAC) fell behind early as the Gothic Knights scored eight of the first nine points and built a 12-3 lead at the 13:25 mark of the opening half. Montclair battled back to take the lead with 6:55 remaining in the first on free throws from MIKE JACKSON.
  • The two sides battled within one possession for the next four-plus minutes before the Red Hawks went on a 9-0 scoring run capped off by a KYREE HENRY three to make the score 37-28 with 45 seconds left. The Gothic Knights hit a three-pointer to go into the break down six.
  • After Montclair went up by nine early in the second half, NJCU battled back to tie the game at 44 with 14:25 remaining. They took the lead two minutes later, but the Red Hawks reclaimed the advantage and went up 55-50 with 9:26 left in the frame.
  • KIERAN FLANAGAN hit two free throws to make the margin seven with 1:34 remaining, but the Gothic Knights scored 13 points to tie the contest at 76 at the end of regulation, including a three-point shot at the buzzer.
  • The entire overtime period saw both sides within one possession of each other, but four points from Pryce in the frame helped seal it for the Red Hawks.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Pryce led the way with a season-high 18 points. He has scored 15 or more points in back-to-back games.
  • Jackson and Flanagan each scored 16 points to go along with eight and seven rebounds, respectively.
  • KUNGA TSERING was the fourth Red Hawk in double-figures with 15 points.
  • The Montclair defense forced 26 turnovers and held NJCU to 25 percent shooting from three-point range.
