Camden, N.J. - The Montclair State University women's basketball team upended Rutgers-Camden 62-50 on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Red Hawks (4-4, 2-1 NJAC) played a tight first quarter with the Scarlet Raptors, with neither side having a lead larger than four points. KATIE STOVALL knocked down a three-point shot with 27 seconds remaining in the opening frame to give Montclair a 16-13 edge after one.
- Montclair started the second quarter strong and was able to build the lead to double-digits behind a SHANNON HUGHES three and layups from ISABELLA ORLANDO and MEGAN DUFFY.
- Orlando connected on a three to make the score 32-17 with 3:18 on the clock, and Montclair would hold the double-digit advantage the rest of the half.
- The visitors continued to hold a large lead throughout the third quarter, with Orlando converting on a layup to give Montclair a 19-point edge with just over a minute remaining in the stanza.
- Rutgers-Camden began to close the gap in the later stages of the fourth, getting to 10 with 41 seconds remaining. The Red Hawks were able to stave off the late push for their third-straight victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Red Hawk defense forced 22 Scarlet Raptor turnovers, leading to 19 points.
- Orlando tallied a team-high 13 points while knocking down three triples.
- TERESA WOLAK notched nine points, four assists, and three rebounds while hitting her first career three-pointer.
- ALEXIS STROLLO chipped in six points and a season-high six boards off the bench, hitting both shots from the floor.
