Men's Basketball Knocks Off William Paterson In Overtime

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University men's basketball team knocked off William Paterson 94-88 in overtime on Wednesday evening. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Neither side could go up by more than three points early before five straight points from the Pioneers opened up a 17-12 margin for the guests.Nine of the following 13 markers favored Montclair, including back-to-back threes from KIERAN FLANAGAN and MIKE JACKSON.
  • With the score tied at 27, WPU netted six of the following eight tallies before a KYREE HENRY three-pointer put Montclair up 34-33. The Pioneers finished the first period with the last five points but trailed by one entering halftime.
  • Both sides shot over 50% from the floor in the first 20 minutes, as the Pioneers were 6-of-8 from deep.
  • KEYON PRYCE hit back-to-back threes to open the second stanza as the Red Hawks embarked on a 12-0 spurt over the first 3:12 to extend the lead to double digits. Jackson's layup at the 16:22 mark gave Montclair their largest lead at 14 points.
  • The Pioneers refused to go away as a layup with 8:38 left made it a one-possession contest. Henry and Pryce connected from deep with about four minutes left, stretching the margin to seven at 72-65.
  • William Paterson went on a 9-0 rally, swinging the momentum back in front as they went ahead 75-72. KUNGA TSERING threw down a vicious dunk with 1:39 and hit the free throw, tying the game at 75. The two sides traded baskets, and overtime was needed to decide a winner.     
  • Tsering had another dunk in overtime, but the Pioneers used a pair of free throws to go up three. Flanagan leveled the game at 82 with a triple before Henry came down and hit one to give Montclair the lead for good. Jackson and Pryce combined to hit six free throws in the final 39 seconds to seal the victory.
 INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Jackson netted his third double-double of the season, pouring in a season-high 24 points and 11 rebounds.      
  • The Red Hawks knocked down 17 three-pointers on the day, led by six from Henry. Henry finished with 20 points.
  • Flanagan filled up the box score with 13 points, nine assists, and eight boards.
