TCNJ Knocks Off Women's Basketball

Ewing, NJ – The Montclair State University women's basketball team was topped by The College of New Jersey 67-39 on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Lions netted seven of the first nine points of the contest before ISABELLA ORLANDO and OLIVIA VERO netted layups to trim the deficit down to one. The Lions polished off the first quarter on a 12-1, as Vero had the lone marker on a free throw.
  • Montclair brought the lead down to six early in the second quarter on a triple from SHANNON HUGHES and a Vero layup, but the Lions countered to push the margin back to double figures. ALEXIS STROLLO got the Red Hawks within 13 at the break, hitting a bucket off a feed from KENDALL HODGES with four seconds to go.
  • Vero converted a chance in the paint to shrink the gap to 36-27 with 5:57 left in the third. However, the Lions held Montclair scoreless over the rest of the frame and finished on a 10-0 run. The Red Hawks could not get any closer than nine the rest of the way.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Vero led the team with eight points and four blocks in the setback.
  • Strollo chipped in five points off the bench.
  • Hughes knocked down a pair of three-pointers.
FROM THE COURT
'Disappointed in today's result. I thought we got out hustled, and our focus as a team wasn't all on the same page. We're looking forward to a few good days of practice before our last conference game of the semester on Wednesday." – Associate Head Coach Katie Sire.
