Women's Basketball Tripped Up At Rowan

Glassboro, NJ – The Montclair State women's basketball team fell to Rowan University 67-55 in New Jersey Athletic Conference play Wednesday evening.

MEGAN DUFFY tallied a team-high 15 points for Montclair State (11-14, 8-10 NJAC) as Grace Marshall notched 13 for Rowan (17-8, 13-5 NJAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Montclair State opened up a 5-2 lead after a NICKIE CARTER three-pointer and a layup from OLIVIA VERO. The hosts pulled in front 8-7 before Duffy hit a three-pointer off a feed from Carter to make it 10-8.
  • The Profs finished the first quarter with the final four markers, with Duffy beginning period two with a layup off an offensive board. The Red Hawks closed to within two at 21-19 on a TERESA WOLAK jumper and pulled even at 21 on two free throws from ALEXIS STROLLO.
  • Rowan took a seven-point halftime lead after recording nine of the final 11 markers in the final 2:06 and limited Montclair to 8-of-27 shooting in the first half.
  • Carter dug into the Profs margin midway through the period, knocking down a jumper in the paint with 5:56 left in the third before a Duffy triple with 3:35 to go made it a one-possession affair.
  • Despite going nearly five minutes without scoring, Rowan notched the final five points of the third and the first basket of the fourth to push the gap to 10.
  • Carter registered a traditional three-point play 1:52 into the fourth to get to within seven, but Rowan broke the game open with a 16-1 spurt over five minutes. GENEVIEVE FARA and SHANNON HUGHES scored the final five points of the contest for Montclair to establish the final margin.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Carter recorded 14 points, three assists, three rebounds, and three steals, as Hughes tallied nine points.
  • The Red Hawks drained eight three-pointers, led by three from Duffy and Hughes.
FROM THE COURT
"I thought we played hard and tough through most of the game. If we can reduce some of the turnovers and offensive rebounds by other teams moving forward, we'll put ourselves in a better place to win games. Looking forward to building on all of the development that we've had this season for future years." - Assistant Coach Katie Sire
