Softball Runs Winning Streak To Seven With Sweep Of Hunter

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State softball team notched their seventh straight victory as they swept Hunter College 5-2 and 9-0 Saturday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (9-1) scored three times in the third inning of game one to open up a 3-0 advantage. MADISON LEECH and KAYLEE DELOSSANTOS reached on one-out singles before JENNA MELUSO hit a two-run double. STEPHANIE SERETIS followed up three batters later with a run-scoring single.
  • Montclair State tacked on two runs in the bottom of the fourth, as Leech reached on a throwing error and came around to score, bringing home CHLOE SAPERSTEIN.
  • ALI CAVALLARO was perfect through six but allowed a bloop infield single leading off the seventh. The runner moved to second an error, and Paige Witalek doubled both home to make it 5-2. Cavallaro escaped the jam with a 6-3-6 double play to end it.
  • The Red Hawks wasted no time in game two, plating six runs in the bottom of the first. KAYLA COSENTINO drove a home run on a ground ball, with LIZ MULLEN collecting an RBI on a sacrifice fly. Seretis doubled home Cosentino before JULIANA CASILLAS plated Seretis. The big blow came from AMBER REED, who belted a two-run home run.
  • Casillas added to the lead, notching a sac fly in the second and an RBI double in the fourth. NIKKI LUSNIA handled the Hawks in the fifth, allowing one walk in the frame as the Red Hawks completed the sweep.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Cavallaro allowed two hits with four strikeouts in the opener, as Lusnia struck out three in five frames in the nightcap.
  • Meluso had two RBI in game one, including a double.
  • Six Red Hawks had two hits in the second game, with Casillas notching three RBI.
UP NEXT
The Red Hawks visit Drew University in non-conference action Wednesday, with the first pitch scheduled for 3 pm.
