Men's Lacrosse Takes Down FDU-Florham 17-6

Madison, NJ – The Montclair State men's lacrosse downed FDU-Florham 17-6 in non-conference action Thursday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • FDU (3-2) got on the scoreboard first, putting in the first goal 3:43 into the game. CARTER FINNEN leveled the game at one with an unassisted tally just over two minutes later before the Red Hawks (2-1) took the lead midway through the period.
  • TYLER MCCREERY gave the Red Hawks a 2-1 lead off a feed from RYAN VIERBUCHEN, and off the ensuing faceoff, DAREN MAYER converted an ANDREA FIORENZA feed to stretch the gap to two. TYLER MCCREERY added his second of the game 14 seconds later, thanks to a pass from ETHAN MOUNIER.
  • The two sides traded goals to close out the first quarter, as TYLER MCCREERY polished off his hat-trick with 1:51 remaining. Montclair extended the lead to 6-2 as JOE COVINO finished a pass from TYLER MCCREERY.
  • The Red Hawks took an 8-2 lead into the half, as MIKE MCCREERY and ETHAN MOUNIER tallied markers in the final 3:04. Montclair held a 23-14 advantage in shots at the break and went 10-for-12 on clears.
  • Montclair and FDU traded goals in the third stanza, as Mounier and TYLER MCCREERY began the fourth with tallies for Montclair State. FDU answered with two goals, but MSU finished the game with the last four goals.

"it wasn't our cleanest game overall, I'll give our guys credit for responding in a bunch of different situations throughout the game. I think there were spurts of some good lacrosse and some spurts of average lacrosse and I think overall we were never going to complain about a win but at the same time, we're excited that we have something there and we can do better." – Head Coach Matt Poskay.
