Fourth Quarter Rally Not Enough as Women's Lacrosse Topped by Eastern Connecticut

Mansfield, Conn. – The Montclair State women's lacrosse team outscored Eastern Connecticut State 9-4 in the second half but were edged 13-12 in non-conference action Thursday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Montclair State (3-5) wasted little time getting on the board, as AMRA LUKOVIC scored 30 seconds into the contest. Lukovic added her second marker of the game five minutes later, extending the lead to 2-0.
  • Eastern Connecticut stormed back, tallying two goals to tie the game at two at the end of the first quarter. LUCIANA FERRARA gave Montclair a 3-2 lead early in the second, but the Warriors recorded the following seven goals, building a 9-3 edge at the half.
  • Montclair battled back, as CHELSEA STACK stopped the run with the lone goal of the third period. Ferrara tacked on her second goal of the day 1:04 into the fourth before Stack potted three consecutive markers to make it 9-8 ECSU.
  • Eastern Connecticut stretched the margin to two with 9:09 left before Lukovic capped her hat trick with an unassisted tally. The Warriors pushed the gap back to two. But JOELLE D'ANGELO and Ferrara recorded goals within 22 seconds of each other to tie the game at 12.
  • The hosts won the ensuing draw and scored the game-winner with 18 seconds remaining. Montclair corralled the final draw, but ECSU forced a turnover to clinch the victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Lukovic and D'Angelo picked up a team-high seven draw controls, with D'Angelo scooping up six ground balls.
  • Stack recorded four goals and an assist, as Lukovic and Ferrara poured in three.
  • LEA HEGEWALD made her first start in goal, making three saves before JOEY GROTKOPF made two.
