Maritime Knocks Off Men's Lacrosse

Throggs Neck, NY – The Montclair State men's lacrosse team fell to Maritime College 11-7 in non-conference play Saturday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Montclair (4-5) fell behind 3-0 early before RYAN VIERBUCHEN got the Red Hawks on the board. After an additional Privateer tally, JACK CLEARY fired home a pass from TYLER MCCREERY to make it 4-2.
  • The two sides traded markers in the second, as Vierbuchen added his second goal of the game. Montclair trailed 6-3 at the half, as goalkeeper DAVID METZGER kept the Red Hawks in the contest with nine first-half stops.
  • JOE COVINO cut into the deficit with an unassisted marker 1:19 into the third before Maritime broke the game open with five of the following six goals. Covino and MATT DANCSECS capped off the scoring late in the fourth, but the Red Hawks could not complete the comeback.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Vierbuchen tallied two goals and an assist as Covino added two goals.
  • Covino, Metzger, and LUCAS NOVACK scooped up four ground balls.
  • Metzger finished with a season-high 17 saves in the setback.
FROM THE FIELD
"We got off to a slow start and chased the whole game. After the first quarter, our defense really settled in and did a good job the rest of the way. Offensively we struggled to find the back of the net. We produced some nice shots and opportunities, but the ball wasn't hopping in for us. We will get back to work this week." – Head Coach Matt Poskay.
