Women's Lacrosse Outlasts Farmingdale In Triple Overtime

Farmingdale, NY – The Montclair State women's lacrosse team outlasted Farmingdale State College 11-10 in three overtimes Saturday afternoon.

NORAH MONAGHAN tallied four goals for Montclair State (1-2) as Megan Diamond had three and an assist for Farmingdale (0-1).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Farmingdale took a 1-0 advantage 1:05 into the game before Monaghan evened the game at one 2:10 later. The rookie completed her hat trick with 9:11 left in the first, converting an ERIN MEO pass to give Montclair a 3-2 lead.
  • The Red Hawks notched the final four goals of the opening period, with CHELSEA STACK netting a pair and JADE GORMAN potting one as the team took a 6-2 lead into the second. The Rams battled back, scoring three times in the 7:03 of the second to get within one at 6-5.
  • Montclair took the slim 6-5 advantage into the halftime break but was outshot 10-9 in the first 30 minutes.
  • The hosts tied the game at six 53 ticks into the third, but the Red Hawks broke through for two tallies in 11 seconds. Stack scored off a JOELLE D'ANGELO assist, and off the ensuing draw, D'Angelo was able to corral the ball. She raced up the field and fed MARGIE QUINTANA, who deposited the ball into the goal for her first collegiate marker.
  • The Rams closed to within one, but sophomore ASHLEY PETROSINE pushed the margin back to two at 9-7 with 3:24 left in the third stanza. D'Angelo extended the gap to 10-8 with a free-position tally, but Farmingdale registered two quick goals midway through the frame to tie things at 10.
  • The game went to overtime, and both goalies proved to be the difference in extending the game. Montclair keeper JOEY GROTKOPF opened the OT with a free position stop before Ronnie Reilly denied Monaghan halfway through the opening overtime.
  • Reilly made two additional saves in the second OT before the Red Hawks capitalized on a turnover. DANIELLE DE JESUS forced a miscue, and on the offensive possession, Monaghan weaved through the defense and scored her fourth of the day to end the contest.
