Field Hockey Tripped Up By Stevens In Overtime

Hoboken, NJ – The Montclair State University field hockey team was tripped up by Stevens 3-2 in overtime on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a scoreless first quarter, Stevens broke through for the first goal in the 26th minute. After being whistled for a foul, the Ducks converted the penalty stroke to take a 1-0 lead. The first half was a defensive battle, as the two sides combined for seven shots.
  • Montclair notched the only two attempts in the third, but the fourth quarter saw a lot of action. After the Stevens goalkeeper denied SADIE EICHLIN off a corner, CARLIE VAN TASSEL found the ball in a scrum and poked the shot home, leveling the game at one in the 49th minute.
  • Once again, the Red Hawks took advantage of a rebound in the 55th minute. ALEXA ANTONELLI ripped a shot off a corner that was stopped, but the carom popped out to TORI SUTERA. The junior deposited the ball into the goal, giving Montclair a 2-1 advantage.
  • The Ducks tied the game in the 56th minute, and 1:09 into overtime, and Stevens claimed the victory with a chip shot from just inside the circle.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Sutera netted her first point of the season with her goal.
  • Antonelli led Montclair with nine of the teams' 13 shots.
  • MCKENNA LAMAN made three saves in the setback.
FROM THE FIELD
