No. 4 Men's Soccer Shuts Down Stockton, 3-0

Montclair, NJ - The No. 4 Montclair State University men's soccer team defeated Stockton 3-0 on Wednesday at MSU Soccer Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (8-0-1, 2-0-0 NJAC) opened the scoring in the 11th minute. After JUAN URIBE forced a Stockton turnover, REED KARSEN collected the loose ball, turned, and played a centering pass to AMER LUKOVIC. The striker moved to the left and ripped a low shot into the back of the net.
  • Montclair doubled the advantage five minutes later, as Lukovic sent in a cross that found its way to OWEN MURPHY, who played it back to the center of the goal, where ANDRE SHELTON tapped it in.
  • The home side added their third of the half in the 36th minute, as Lukovic converted a penalty kick after SALEM ELLISY was taken down in the box.
  • Lukovic narrowly missed completing the hat trick in the 53rd minute as he collected the ball in the box, moved past a defender, and had his shot saved out of play.
  • Montclair almost increased the lead in the 66th minute as Murphy shot the ball from outside the box that had to be parried over the net by the Stockton goalkeeper.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Lukovic increased his nation-leading goal total to 15. The forward has scored in every match this season for Montclair and has recorded a brace in three consecutive games.
  • Shelton's goal was his second of the season.
  • Murphy's assist was his third on the campaign, tied for second on the team.
  • Karsen, Lukovic, and Uribe all tallied their first assists of the season.
FROM THE FIELD
"Amer [Lukovic] got off to a hot start, which helped the game to settle down a little bit. Defensively, we did a pretty good job, so we got our three points, and it's onto the next one." Head Coach Todd Tumelty
