Field Hockey Edges DeSales 2-1 In Overtime

Center Valley, Pa. – Junior GAB MAISTO scored 4:44 into the second overtime as the Montclair State University field hockey team clipped DeSales 2-1 Wednesday evening.

KYLIE COMPTON added a goal for Montclair (2-1), with Delani Remp scoring for DeSales (1-1).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • MCKENNA LAMAN fended off four Bulldog shots in the first quarter before Remp broke the scoreless game 2:27 into the second quarter. Montclair nearly answered back, but CARLIE VAN TASSEL's attempt was stopped midway through the frame.
  • The Red Hawks were awarded a corner late in the first half and capitalized off a scrum in front. Maisto's initial attempt was stopped, and TORI SUTERA worked the ball out from the side to directly in front of the goal. After it glanced off a Bulldog stick, Compton slammed into the back of the cage for her first marker of the season.
  • Montclair looked for the go-ahead marker in the second half, outshooting DeSales 10-3. Goalkeeper Kayla Yeatman was especially strong for the DeSales in the fourth, denying three consecutive shots.
  • Both sides had shots off target in the first extra session, and Montclair took advantage in the second. The Red Hawks forced a turnover in the defensive end before Sutera dribbled up the field. She slid a pass to Van Tassel, who pivoted and flipped the ball back to Maisto at the top of the circle. The junior fired and beat the goalkeeper for her third marker of the season.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Montclair outshot DeSales 17-11, including 10-6 on goal. Laman made five saves to earn her second victory of the season.
  • Maisto and Van Tassel have notched at least one point in every game this season, as Maisto has scored in all three contests.
  • The overtime win was the first since Montclair topped Stevens on September 28, 2022.
