Volleyball Sweeps FDU-Florham in Home Opener

Montclair, NJ – Junior RACHEL CURRAN posted a double-double as the Montclair State University volleyball team swept FDU-Florham 3-0 Wednesday.

Curran tallied a team-high 11 kills and 11 digs for Montclair (4-1) in the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks were all over FDU in set one, reeling off 11 of the first 14 markers. FDU got within five, but Montclair rebounded with seven straight off the hot serving of EMILY CARCICH. After a side-out, Curran served up the last six points, and an attack error gave the hosts a 1-0 lead.
  • FDU took a 3-2 advantage in set two, but GABBY KONRAD delivered eight consecutive points, polished off with a service ace. The Devils got with three at 11-8, but Carcich extended the lead back to eight with an ace.
  • Eight of the final nine tallies favored Montclair, as SKYE RAMSEY pounded out three kills during the spurt.
  • The Devils raced out to a 7-4 lead in set three, but two aces during a 4-0 from GIANNA CEFALU inched Montclair back in front. The back-and-forth frame finally tilted Montclair's way as EMMA HATCHER carved up the Devils' defense with four aces during the set-swinging 7-0 run. Montclair claimed the victory after an unforced error on a set ended the match.

FROM THE COURT
"I thought overall tonight we did a really good job at coming back from obviously a tough NYU match and just focusing on our side of the net. Ball control is a big thing I think we did a really good job with our passers, and we mix a lot of people in and our passing was stable throughout the match and setters got the offense going. I think tonight was an important step and still the growing process and the learning experience of this team. So overall, I think it was it was good to get back in the gym get a 3-0, and get focused for this weekend.." – Head Coach Eddie Stawinski.
