Men's Basketball Clips Kean In NJAC Action

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University men's basketball team knocked off Kean University 92-86 in New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Saturday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars led by five early in the affair before the Red Hawks jumped in front 19-17 on a layup from FRANCISCO PAULINO midway through the stanza. With the score level at 19, the Red Hawks embarked on a 12-2 spurt, stretching the lead to 10 on a three-pointer from MIKE JACKSON.
  • Kean finished the half with a 20-7 spurt, grabbing a three-point lead at the break a three-pointer with four seconds left in the frame.
  • The Cougars shot a blistering 53.1% (17-of-32) from the floor in the first half as Montclair was held to 13-of-41 (31.7%).
  • The Kean lead grew to six in the second before a layup with 15:20 left extended the margin to seven. KUNGA TSERING and AHMAD ROBERTSON tossed down consecutive dunks to shrink the gap to three, kick-started a 10-0 run, and a triple from SAMAR ABDULLAH capped off the rally.
  • Kean crept back in front with 7:57 left on a layup before four straight Montclair free throws pushed them in front 77-75. The Red Hawks started to pull away, and a clutch three from KIERAN FLANAGAN made it 86-78. The Cougars could only get as close as four the rest of the way as Montclair came away with the win.

  • Jackson paced the Red Hawks with 19 points and netted double-digit points in all but two games this season.
  • Making his first start of the year, Paulino poured in a career-best 16 points while adding six boards.
