Field Hockey Edged by TCNJ, 1-0

Ewing, NJ The Montclair State University field hockey team was edged by The College of New Jersey, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (10-4, 3-1 NJAC) opened the afternoon with the first two shots of the contest, as KYLIE COMPTON saw an attempt on frame parried away six minutes in, and ALEXA ANTONELLI saw an opportunity blocked 90 seconds later. Montclair was tested defensively over the remaining six minutes of the frame, blocking two shots to keep the game level after one quarter.
  • KELLY WESTERVELT tallied a shot attempt three and a half minutes into the second frame, with neither side allowing a shot until the final 68 seconds of the half. After Montclair blocked another attempt from the Lions, the two teams went into the break scoreless.
  • Montclair notched the first attempt on frame for either side early in the third quarter, as KYLIE COMPTON saw her shot saved by TCNJ following a penalty corner from NATALIE SURMA. Four minutes later, SYDNEY WHITE collected her first stop on the resulting shot of a penalty corner. Neither side registered a shot the remainder of the quarter.
  • TCNJ strung together a stretch of shots to open the fourth, outshooting the Red Hawks 4-1 over the first eight minutes. White tallied two more saves during the run to maintain the scoreless margin. The home side broke through for the game's lone goal in the 59th minute, as they found the back of the cage on their second shot attempt after a penalty corner.
