Men's Soccer Plays to 1-1 Draw With Rutgers-Camden on Senior Night

Montclair, NJ The Montclair State University men's soccer team concluded the regular season with a 1-1 draw against Rutgers-Camden on Senior Night at MSU Soccer Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (12-4-2, 6-2-1 NJAC) saw an early attempt from the Scarlet Raptors gathered by ALEXANDER VELASQUEZ in the seventh minute. REED KARSEN notched the first shot attempt for Montclair in the 22nd minute, and SAMUEL EPITIME slotted a shot on goal that was saved four minutes later.
  • Following a foul in the box in the 27th minute, Velasquez came up with a crucial save on a penalty kick, diving out to the right side of goal to parry away the attempt to keep the game level. 
  • Montclair took the lead in the 35th minute, as DIEGO FLORES gathered the ball along the near side edge of the box, made a quick step to the left and sent a centering pass to MAX PERRY. The midfielder took a step to cut back and ripped a left-footed shot that took a deflection into the back of the net. Rutgers-Camden leveled the contest in the waning stages of the stanza on an own goal.
  • Neither side recorded a shot in the first 15 minutes of the second half, with neither having an attempt on goal until the 76th minute, as IAN CHESNEY saw a shot stopped by the Rutgers-Camden keeper. On a free kick on the center edge of the box, KEVIN CONTRERAS ripped a shot below the wall that had to be kick saved by the Scarlet Raptors to keep the game level in the 78th minute.
  • The Red Hawks tallied two more attempts from Flores and OWEN MURPHY, but neither side could register an attempt on goal the rest of the night as they ended in a draw to wrap up NJAC regular season play.
INSIDE THE RESULTS
  • Montclair held a 10-4 advantage in shots, including a 4-2 mark in shots on goal.
  • Perry tallied his second collegiate goal, with Flores picking up his second assist of the campaign.
  • Velasquez collected two saves for the night for the Red Hawks.
UP NEXT

The Red Hawks will hold the second seed in the 2024 New Jersey Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Tournament, and will await their opponent in the Semifinals on Tuesday, November 5. Kickoff from MSU Soccer Park is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
