Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University volleyball team (19-7) saw their 11-match win streak snap as they were defeated by New York University, 3-0 on Friday night
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The beginning of set was a back-and-forth contest up to a 5-4 Red Hawk. Montclair saw SARAH CAPONE and CAMRYN MUUSS both saw kills during the beginning portion. After that, NYU went on a 7-1 run to jump out to a 12-6 lead. After a BRYN BAUTISTA kill, the Royals went on a 5-1 run to extend their lead to 17-8. The Red Hawks attempted to claw back with a kill and service ace from Bautista and a kill from Capone, but a 7-2 run eventually gave New York the 25-13 set one win.
- The Royals started off with a 6-2 lead before three-straight points from the Red Hawks cut the lead to 6-5. That small run saw Muuss hammer down two kills. Both teams exchanged blows up to a 10-9 NYU lead before New York University saw a 5-1 run that gave them a comfortable 14-9 lead. The teams exchanged points again to a 16-12 score that was once again extended to 21-14 with a 5-2 run from the Royals. LILY THOMAS and Bautista knocked down two kills before NYU wrapped up the set with a 4-1 run to take set two, 25-16.
- New York jumped up out to a 6-2 again and eventually worked up to an 8-4 lead before they exploded with nine straight points to take a 17-4 edge. After an attack error, they saw a 4-1 run to hold a 21-6 advantage. The two teams traded points again up to a 22-8 lead before three-unanswered points to seal the match win for the Royals with a 25-8 win.

- Bautista led the team with eight kills while also adding four digs.
- KATIE RODMAN posted her 22nd double-digit dig effort with 12 tonight.

Montclair State will see a quick turnaround for their final regular-season contests of the year when they host Misericordia and Moravian on Saturday, November 9. The face off with Misericordia at 12:00pm and Moravian at 4:00pm.
