Women’s Soccer Falls in NJAC Finals at #10 TCNJ, 4-1

Ewing, NJ. – The Montclair women's soccer team (11-6-5) fell in the New Jersey Athletic Conference Finals at #10 College of New Jersey, 4-1 on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Lions put the pressure on early with six shots in the first six minutes of the contest. The first five shots saw three saves from SALANGE BELL, one blocked shot and one off the post before the sixth was buried to give TCNJ a 1-0 lead at the 6:42 mark.
  • TCNJ continued its offensive onslaught, but were unable to find the back of the net. Montclair counterattacked in the 21st minute and was able to hit the equalizer when ASHLEY DEFRANCESCO found AILEEN CAHILL to tie the contest 1-1. No one was able to get the go head goal in the first half and it remained a tied game heading into the second.
  • The Lions got a quick shot off in the first minute of the half but Bell made the save before it was Montclair's turn on the offensive. ARIA HICKS and NIKI DANZ both found some opportunities between the 52nd and 56th minute but Hick's shot went wide and Danz's was saved. Hicks created another shot that was saved at the 57:56 timestamp.
  • The go-ahead goal came at the 67:12 mark in the contest when Allie O'Keefe buried one for the Lions to give them a 2-1 advantage. It wasn't long after when Alyssa Alfano extended the lead to 3-1 in th4 69th minute for a 3-1 edge.
  • The Red hawks saw a flurry of corner kick opportunities, with four between the 71st and 73rd minute, but were unable to generate anything into the back of the net. MACKENZIE ALBERT had a shot blocked and Danz had one saved during that period. The exclamation point for TCNJ happened at the 76:41 mark when Alfano fired in her second shot of the contest that sealed the game with a 4-1 victory to win the NJAC for the second year in a row.
INSIDE THE RESULTS
  • Montclair was outshot in the contest 20 (11) to 10 (6).
  • Cahill scored her eighth goal of the season and the 45th of her storied career.
  • Bell finished the game with seven saves.

Montclair State University will await the NCAA Selection show next Monday at 2:00pm to see if they receive an at-large bid.
