Men's Basketball Falls To Stockton In NJAC Semifinals

Pryce Tallies 1,000th Career Point In Setback

Galloway, NJ – Senior KEYON PRYCE became the 28th person in program history to score 1,000 career points, but third-seeded Montclair State University men's basketball team fell to second-seeded Stockton University 91-77 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference Semifinals on Wednesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Ospreys started strong, tallying 11 of the first 14 markers. The Red Hawks battled back, getting to within 11-7 on a KYREE HENRY layup, but Stockton quickly brought the score back to up 12 with a 10-2 run.
  • The margin swelled to double figures midway through the period, as seven consecutive markers from Stockton pushed the score to 32-14. MIKE JACKSON broke the scoring drought with a pull-up jumper from just outside the paint.
  • Montclair continued to battle back, using a 13-3 spurt to trim the deficit to eight at 40-32. KEYON PRYCE had five points, and KUNGA TSERING had four during the run. Stockton closed the opening frame with the final seven points, taking a 46-32 lead into the break.
  • The Ospreys shot 64.3% (18-of-28) from the floor while limiting Montclair to 38.7% shooting in the opening 20 minutes.
  • Pryce drained a three-pointer 4:47 into the second to bring the score down to 10 at 52-42, and consecutive triples from AMARI MILLS and GRANT HOLBROOK made it 59-50 with 12:12 to play. Two Stockton free throws ended the run, extending the advantage back to 10.
  • A Tsering layup and free throw made it a two-possession game at 65-59 with 7:56, as Montclair went on an 8-0 run. After the Osprey's re-established a 12-point advantage, Jackson converted a three-pointer and Holbrook sank a pair from the charity stripe, making it 77-70 with 3:28 left.
  • The Red Hawks could not get any closer than that the rest of the way, as the Ospreys closed out the game with crucial shots from the floor and free throw line.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Pryce led the team with 28 points, matching his season-high, and joined Jackson as the two Red Hawks to score their 1,000th career point this season. Over his final three games, Pryce averaged 19.0 points per game.
  • Jackson tallied 13 points while grabbing a team-best six rebounds. He became the 13th student-athlete to score over 1,200 points in his career as he sits tied for 11th with 1,213 markers.
  • Holbrook tallied a season-high nine points while matching a season-best with four boards.
