Cleary Ties School-Record For Assists As Men's Lacrosse Tops Southwestern

Montclair, NJ – Senior JACK CLEARY tied the school record with 10 assists as the Montclair State University men's lacrosse team cruised past Southwestern (TX) 20-5 on Sunday morning.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks raced out to an 8-0 advantage after the first quarter. RYAN VIERBUCHEN netted the first two markers before Cleary assisted on three consecutive markers. LOUIS AZARA capped off the first quarter barrage off a feed from CODY COOPER.
  • JOHN CRANK and Cooper opened the second period with goals, with Cleary tacking on assists. The Pirates recorded their first two goals of the morning midway through the second, as Montclair led 10-2 at the break.
  • Crank completed his hat trick early in the third, with Cleary scoring the 13th marker of the game. JACKSON SIMONS, WILLIAM BURDGE, and Brendan Lewandowski scored third-quarter goals, while Crank, Cooper, and SEBASTIAN GRAZIANO scored fourth-quarter goals.
 INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Cleary tied the school record with 10 assists, equaling Kevin Oxley's mark. Oxley's record had stood since April 15, 1982, when he had against FDU-Teaneck.
  • Crank's six goals marked a career-best, besting his mark of four in the season-opener against FDU-Florham.
  • Eight different Red Hawks tallied multi-point outings, including two goals and two assists from Cooper.
  • All three goalies saw action, with BRANDON SHEVINS making nine saves in 45 minutes. OWEN TORREY and GIANNI GRAZIANO split the fourth, combining to make three stops.
