Softball Falls to Stockton in NJAC Opening Doubleheader

Galloway, NJ - The Montclair State University softball team dropped a doubleheader to Stockton University on Saturday.

The Red Hawks (10-10, 0-2 NJAC) fell 5-3 in the opener and 10-4 in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Ospreys built a 5-0 advantage after three innings, scoring twice in the first and three times in the third.
  • The Red Hawks cut into the lead in the fifth with MOLLY COLLIGAN delivering an RBI single. Mariah Carraso led off with a walk and moved to second on a throwing error before scoring on the Colligan single to left.
  • Montclair turned a 1-5 double play to end the fifth before tallying two more runs in the sixth. RILEIGH GLYNN reached on an error to leadoff the frame and scored on a double down the left field line by KAYLA COSENTINO. STEPHANIE SERETIS stepped up next and brought Cosentino around with a single to left. 
  • They could not get any closer, as Stockton notched the final six outs to preserve the win.
  • Stockton opened game two with a six-run first inning, tallying five hits. The Red Hawks answered with three runs in the following inning, as DANIELA PLAGANIS tripled to left field, plating CHLOE SAPERSTEIN and JULIANA CASILLAS. Later in the frame, Glynn singled down the left field line, plating Plaganis. 
  • The Ospreys added three runs in the third inning on three consecutive hits to make the score 9-3. Plaganis singled to left field in the sixth to plate a run to cut into the deficit, but Stockton tacked on the final run of the contest in the bottom of the frame to make the final margin six.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Cosentino reached base twice in the opening game, doubling and recording a walk.
  • The Red Hawks swiped three bases in the opening game, running their season total to 53.
  • Plaganis tallied season-highs in both hits (two) and RBI (three) in the second game.
