Men's Lacrosse Edged by Stockton in CLC Quarterfinals

Galloway, NJ The sixth-seeded Montclair State University men's lacrosse team was edged by the third-seeded Stockton University 12-10 in the Coastal Lacrosse Conference Quarterfinals on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (4-10) were locked in a defensive battle with the Ospreys early, as both sides held each other scoreless until the 5:29 mark of the first quarter, as RYAN VIERBUCHEN broke the deadlock on a feed from JOHN CRANK. The visitors doubled their advantage in the waning moments of the period, as Crank found ETHAN MOUNIER with one second left on the clock.
  • After an Osprey turnover in the opening minute of the second, Mounier found BRANDON LEWANDOWSKI for Montclair's third goal of the afternoon. Lewandowski added his second 90 seconds later on a man-advantage possession. The Red Hawks scored two of the final three goals of the half to make the halftime score 6-1.
  • Mounier tallied the first marker of the third quarter three minutes in, and off the resulting faceoff, LUCAS NOVACK found the back of the net to increase the margin to an afternoon-high seven. Novack tried for his second following the next faceoff, but after coming up with a save on the shot, Stockton scored on their next possession.
  • Stockton added two more to cut the margin to four before Vierbuchen answered with a goal off a feed from Mounier with 5:59 on the clock in the third. The Ospreys scored the final four goals of the period to make it a 9-8 contest going into the final 15 minutes of play.
  • The home side leveled the contest 45 seconds into the fourth quarter, but Montclair reclaimed the advantage with 7:20 remaining as JACK CLEARY found CODY COOPER. After winning the resulting faceoff, Stockton equalized on their next possession and took the lead back with 5:35 on the clock. They added one final marker with just under two and a half minutes left to seal the postseason victory.

FROM THE FIELD

"Thought we played extremely hard today. Our team came ready to play and it showed with how well we started. Unfortunately we made some mistakes in the second half that fueled their run which ended up being the difference." - Head Coach Matt Poskay
