Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State field hockey team (7-2) was stunned on the road at visiting Arcadia (4-5) when they were defeated 1-0, snapping their seven-game win streak.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first period saw the Red Hawks generate two shots and three penalty corners to the Knights one shot and two penalty corners, but no one was able to put a shot on goal and generate a true offensive opportunity.
- The first shot on goal came from Arcadia at the off a penalty corner in the 26th minute of the game, but SYDNEY WHITE made the save to keep the game scoreless. It was a defensive showing the rest of the way and that kept the game at a 0-0 tie into the second half.
- The first shot on goal from Montclair came from GAB MAISTO within the first three minutes of the third period and it ended up being saved by Arcadia goalie Anna Doblovosky. That was followed up a few minutes later with a shot from ALEXA ANTONELLI, but a defensive save kept the game tied.
- The eventual game-winner came at the 40:50 mark when the Knights took advantage of a penalty corner opportunity to set up a goal and to take a 1-0 lead.
- In the fourth period, the Red Hawks had a few shot opportunities and corners that put them in position to score, but neither was able to fall and Arcadia held off Montclair to snap their win streak
INSIDE THE RESULTS
- White suffered her first loss of the season as the starting goalkeeper and made one save.
- Montclair State out shot Arcadia, nine to four but both teams put the same shots on goal with two.
- The Red Hawks collected 10 penalty corners to the Knights six.
