Volleyball Sweeps Bard and Cedar Crest

Montclair, NJ The Montclair State University volleyball team knocked off Bard and Cedar Crest in straight sets in a tri-match on Saturday afternoon at the Panzer Athletic Center. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (4-1) rattled off 10 of the first 12 points against Bard, a stretch that included two kills from Camrynn Muuss. After the Raptors cut the deficit to 13-6, Montclair ballooned the lead to double-digits on a run capped off by a LILY THOMAS kill. The visitors would get only as close as eight the remainder of the set, as Montclair took the frame 25-14 on another kill from Muuss.
  • After Bard took a 5-4 lead early in the second, Montclair tallied 11 of the next 12 points as Muuss, RACHEL CURRAN, and SARAH CAPONE notched multiple kills. The visitors got within six points late, but with the score 21-15, the Red Hawks closed the set on three consecutive attack errors and a kill from Curran.
  • Montclair notched four of the opening five points during the third set, and with the score 15-9 in favor of the home side, the Red Hawks strung together seven straight markers to make the margin 13 on a GABBY KONRAD ace. Bard made the margin 10 late, but a service error sealed the victory for the Red Hawks.
  • The Red Hawks began their second match of the day with five straight points and later built a 16-10 advantage on Cedar Crest. After the visitors brought the deficit to two at 22-20, Montclair rattled off three straight points to clinch the set on a kill from Muuss and two from ZOEY HORN.
  • Leading 13-11 in the second stanza, the Red Hawks tallied nine of the next 10 points, a run ended by back-to-back kills from Thomas and Muuss. The visitors could cut the margin to as close as eight the rest of the way, as another Horn kill clinched the set.
  • Montclair built another strong lead in the third set, going up 14-4. After Cedar Crest cut the lead by two, the Red Hawks ballooned their advantage to 13. With the margin 22-9, the visitors came within 10 at 24-14, but Muuss finished the afternoon with another kill.
INSIDE THE RESULTS
  • Muuss led the Red Hawks with a combined 30 kills on the day, including 18 in the second match.
  • RACHEL CURRAN notched 11 kills against Bard, matching her season-high against FDU-Florham on August 31.
  • Thomas collected a season-high six blocks against Cedar Crest. Konrad's 13 set assists against Bard set a new season-high.
  • BRYN BAUTISTA tallied a career-high 19 digs in the team's second match of the day against Cedar Crest.
