Women's Basketball Collects Third-Straight Victory; Defeats Stockton 67-54

Galloway, NJ The Montclair State University women's basketball team surged past Stockton, 67-54, for their third consecutive victory on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (11-3, 5-2 NJAC) opened the contest with nine of the first 11 points, including a pair of buckets from SOPHIE BENEVENTINE. Stockton trimmed the margin to six at the 3:45 mark of the stanza, but Montclair closed the quarter with the final seven points, capped off by a pair of free throws from ALYSSA CRAIGWELL.
  • Montclair continued to push offensively in the early stages of the second frame, as Craigwell hit a jumper in the paint with 6:27 remaining, and a free throw from ALEXIS STROLLO pushed the lead to a game-high 18 shortly after. The Ospreys cut the deficit to 10, but the Red Hawks halted the run with a layup from AMANDA CASTRO. With the lead nine in the waning moments, Strollo finished the half with a layup to make the halftime score 31-20.
  • The pair of Beneventine and Craigwell bolstered the offensive surge in the third stanza for the Red Hawks, as they went up by 15 at the frame's halfway mark. After five-straight from Stockton, Montclair reopened an 18-point advantage with 2:18 on the clock on a three-point make from SHANNON HUGHES, and would go into the final quarter up 16.
  • Stockton made one final push over the first half of the fourth, as they got within 10 points at the 5:13 mark of the contest. The visitors rattled off five of the next six, capped off by a three-point make from Strollo, to go up 16. They did not allow the Ospreys to get closer than 12, sealing the road victory.
INSIDE THE RESULTS
  • Montclair has won seven of its last eight contests dating back to December 7, 2024. The Red Hawks have won seven of their last 10 matchups against the Ospreys.
  • Craigwell finished with a game-high 18 points to go along with seven boards. She has notched double-digit point totals in 12 of her 14 appearances during her freshman campaign.
  • Strollo and Beneventine each finished with 11 points on the afternoon. Strollo has recorded double-digit points in each of her last three, with Beneventine collecting them in three of her last four appearances.
  • OLIVIA VERO tallied eight points and 10 rebounds, her sixth double-digit rebound performance of the season.
