Volleyball Falls to Rowan, 3-0

Glassboro, NJ The Montclair State University volleyball team fell to Rowan 3-0 on Tuesday night in New Jersey Athletic Conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (17-4, 3-2 NJAC) took an early 4-3 lead on a service ace from EMMA HATCHER, but the Profs notched five of the next six to build a three-point advantage. Rowan continued to push offensively as they extended the lead to 16-8 before Montclair answered with a kill from SOFIA DIPROFIO followed by an attack error from the Profs. The home side countered with a pair of points, but the Red Hawks rattled off five in a row, headlined by two aces from Hatcher. Three of the next four from Montclair cut the deficit to one, but Rowan closed the opening stanza with six of the final eight points.
  • After the Profs jumped out to a 9-4 lead in the early stages of the second frame, Montclair bounced back with a 7-1 run to take the lead, capped off by back-to-back service aces from LUCY CORNELIUS. Rowan began to close the gap and eventually took a slim 13-12 lead before CAMRYN MUUSS equalized with a kill. The home side embarked on an extended run to claim the set, notching 12 of the final 13 points.
  • Montclair began the third stanza strong with three consecutive points, including kills from Cornelius and Muuss. Rowan battled back to take the lead at 7-5, but the Red Hawks tallied six of the next seven to go back up by three. The home side used a 5-1 run to reclaim the advantage, but the Red Hawks countered again with five-straight, headlined by a pair of kills from BREANNA CRAIG. Later in the set, LILY THOMAS recorded a kill to push Montclair ahead 22-19, but the Profs answered with five of the next six to push match point. An attack error tied the contest at 24, but Rowan tallied the final two points to take the conference victory.

  • Muuss led the way offensively with nine kills, with Craig adding six.
  • Hatcher notched four service aces while accumulating 11 digs defensively.

"Credit to Rowan, they served us tough and got us out of our offense for most of the night. We had times in the match that we settled into our game, we just couldn't maintain the momentum and made some errors that we couldn't overcome. We need to use this match to learn from it and work on key areas down the stretch of the season." - Head Coach Eduardo Stawinski

The Red Hawks will travel to Dallas, PA for a tri-match on Saturday, October 18. They will face Moravian at 2:00 PM and then take on the host Misericordia at 4:00 PM.
