PREVIEW | Women’s Soccer vs. William Paterson

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University Women's soccer team hits the road for NJAC play this week as they travel to Wayne, NJ, to face William Paterson this Wednesday.

LAST TIME OUT 
Montclair faced Rutgers Newark last Saturday and blanked the Scarlet Raiders, 4-0 . In just the third minute of the game, SHANNON MULLINS found MACKENZIE ALBERT for a goal to take a 1-0 advantage. Prendergast's first goal came not too far after the 10:20 timestamp, when she fired a shot into the back of the net to push the lead out to 2-0. Montclair kept the pressure up in the first half, continuing to put shots up. In the 25th minute, Guzzardo pushed a ball up to Prendergast, who finished for her second goal and gave Montclair a 3-0 advantage, one they took into the second half. The Scarlet Raiders, in the first 13 minutes of the second half, outshot Montclair 3-1, but were unable to secure a goal. They continued to avoid the shutout in the 64th minute with a shot and rebound, but Red Hawk goalkeeper SALANGE BELL denied both shots and kept Newark off the board. The hat trick came at the 77:39 time stamp, where Guzzardo took the set piece and kicked it up to Prendergast, who finished it and finished the game off, 4-0.

SCOUTING WILLIAM PATERSON  
The Pioneers enter this match at 6-6-1 and 1-2-1 in conference play and are coming off a 3-0 to No. 17 Rowan University in NJAC play. WPU is looking to regain momentum as the loss to the Profs marks their third straight defeat, where they've been held scoreless in each of their last three matches. In 2024, William Paterson compiled a 5-7-7 overall record and a 1-3-5 NJAC record that saw it miss the conference tournament. According to the 2025 NJAC Preseason Poll, the Pioneers are projected to finish ninth this season.
 
SERIES HISTORY 
The Red Hawks and the Pioneers will face off for the 37th time in their program's history. Montclair is in the driver's seat of the series with a 22-12-3 overall record and has been unbeaten in the series in the last 16 meetings, with 14 of the 16 meetings being wins.
 
LAST MEETING 
The last time the Red Hawks met the Pioneers was last year, when Montclair showed a dominant display, winning by a score of 4-0 to claim victory at MSU Soccer Park on October 16.
