Volleyball Matches Program Home Wins Record; Sweeps Ramapo, 3-0

Montclair, NJ The Montclair State University volleyball team swept Ramapo in straight-sets, 3-0, on Tuesday night at the Panzer Athletic Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (20-4, 4-2 NJAC) battled the Roadrunners early, holding a slim 5-4 advantage through the first nine points. Four consecutive markers from the home side vaulted them out by five, headlined by kills from LILY THOMAS and LUCY CORNELIUS. With the score 13-7, Ramapo battled back with six of the next nine points to cut the deficit to three, 16-13. CAMRYN MUUSS ended the extended run with a kill, but three of the next four for Ramapo made the margin two, forcing a timeout from the Red Hawks. Montclair held a 19-17 lead deep into the stanza before it rattled off three points in a row to generate a Roadrunner timeout, eventually claiming the set on another kill from Muuss.
  • After Ramapo claimed the first two points of the second frame, the Red Hawks amassed the next five on a pair of kills from Thomas. The Roadrunners countered with six of the following 10 points to equalize at nine and took the lead shortly after at 11-10. Montclair embarked on an extended 12-0 run to vault out by double-digits, as BRYN BAUTISTA notched four kills and HAYDEN NEUHAUS tallied three service aces. Ramapo halted the stretch with three of the next four, but Bautista and Muuss capped off the stanza with kills to push Montclair up two.
  • The Roadrunners built a 5-1 lead in the beginning stages of the third set, but Montclair responded with the next six points to retake the advantage. After a Ramapo point, the Red Hawks rattled off six more on a pair of service aces from KASEY TRZASKA. The visitors battled back and trimmed the margin to 18-14, but Thomas countered with two kills along with another from Muuss. Montclair finished the match with four of the final six points, capped off by a kill from EMMA HATCHER.

FROM THE COURT

"We did a great job overall in all aspects of the game. Lucy did a great job running her offense again, our hitters limited mistakes and took some smart swings. We did a great job putting pressure on Ramapo with our service and taking them out of their offense from the second set on. Looking forward to another NJAC match this week!" - Head Coach Eduardo Stawinski
