#18 Men's Soccer Earns NJAC Road Victory Over Ramapo, 5-1

Mahwah, NJ The #18 Montclair State University men's soccer team surged past Ramapo 5-1 on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (12-1-3, 5-1-1 NJAC) received an early save from PIERRE SOUMEILLANT, leading to a goal from LOGAN NENO in the 14th minute off a feed from JAKE WINCHOCK. Ramapo searched for the equalizer over the next two minutes with a trio of shots, but the visitors doubled their advantage in the 28th minute as KEVIN CONTRERAS found TOMAS MONTEIRO with a scramble in front of goal.
  • SEBASTIAN LAPCZYNSKI notched a shot attempt nine minutes later, with Ramapo hitting the woodwork four minutes later. Soumeillant tallied a save shortly after, but the Roadrunners found the back of the net on another attempt right after to cut the deficit in half going into the break.
  • Following a foul in the box in the 54th minute, Lapczynski stepped up and slotted in a penalty kick attempt to push the margin back to two. Montclair continued to apply pressure offensively, as Contreras connected with Monteiro for another goal in the 62nd minute to make the score 4-1.
  • Contreras rattled two shot attempts on goal over the next eight minutes, but both were collected by the home side. In the 70th minute, the Red Hawks struck for their final marker of the night as JACKSON PERATA fed a pass to DANNY TOBON, who found the back of the net. Montclair allowed just three shots the remainder of the way, with Soumeillant notching one final stop to help seal the road victory.
INSIDE THE RESULTS
  • The brace for Monteiro was his third of the season, increasing his season goal total to a team-leading nine. He ranks fourth in the NJAC overall and leads all freshmen within the league. Monteiro is the first Red Hawk with three or more braces in a season since AMER LUKOVIC in 2023. His nine goals are also the most by a Montclair freshman since Lukovic during the 2021 campaign.
  • Lapczynski has scored in back-to-back games and remained a perfect 4-for-4 from the penalty spot this season. His four goals are the most for a Montclair defender in a single season since IAN CHESNEY in 2022.
  • Tobon's goal marked his eighth of the year, notching a goal contribution in each of the last four games for the Red Hawks. Neno's goal was his third of the campaign.
  • Contreras ranks second on the team in assists, picking up his fourth and fifth of the season. Winchock is close behind in third, tallying his fourth assist.
  • The assist for Perata was the first of his collegiate career.
  • Soumeillant accumulated three assists and his sixth victory in net for the Red Hawks.
