Men’s Swimming & Diving Picks Up First Win Against Kutztown, 165-96

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State Men's Swimming & Diving team (1-1) picked up its first dual-meet win of the season as they bested Kutztown (0-2), 165-96 on Saturday.

How It Happened
  • The Red Hawks were led by the tandem of BOBBY FREECE and MICHAEL SALVATORI, who both totaled three individual wins in the meet. Freece dominated the field in sprint freestyle, notching first-place finishes in the 50 free (22.13), 100 free (48.16), and 200 free (1:46.58). Salvatori notched wins in the 100 back (55.04), 200 back (1:58.67), and 200 IM (2:01.45).
  • PETER JARZAB collected two first-place finishes individually. He touched the wall first in the 100 fly (51.57) and 200 fly (1:59.57).
  • FILIP SALEK and ANDREW PEARCE both earned a pair of second-place finishes in the meet. Salek touched second in the 100 breast (1:02.18) and 200 breast (2:15.96), and Pearce placed second in the 100 back (57.42) and 200 back (2:05.79).
  • ADRIAN GONZALEZ and MAX SMILEVSKI both tallied a second-place and third-place finish in individual events. Gonzalez placed second in the 200 fly (2:01.24) and third in the 100 fly (54.21). Smilevski notched second in the 50 free (22.59) and third in the 100 fly (1:47.54).
  • MATT DETTLINGER and ALEX PASQUINI each saw a second and third-place finish in the meet. Dettlinger touched the wall second in the 100 breast (1:02.05) and third in the 200 breast (2:23.90).
  • MASON WOODS placed third in both distance freestyle events. He clocked 5:05.81 in the 500 free and 10:39.28 in the 1000 free. MASON DRANCHAK also earned a third-place finish when he timed a 57.57 in the 100 back.
  • In relays, the mashup of Freece, Smilevski, Jarzab, and MICHAEL WOJCIECHOWICZ won the 400-free relay by a time of 3:15.15. The A relay of Pearce, Salek, Gonzalez, and Wojciechowicz placed second with a time of 1:40.60.

  • "We had some very good swims after a very hard week of fall break training. This is only the second season for Kutztown after they reinstated the program, so it is great to renew the rivalry. They will continue to get stronger in the years ahead". Head Coach Brian McLaughlin.
