Women's Soccer Defeats Stockton 4-1; Remains Unbeaten Through 16 Games

Galloway, NJ The Montclair State University women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to 16 with a 4-1 road victory over Stockton on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (11-0-5, 6-0-2 NJAC) fell behind in the third minute, as the Ospreys made a run to the end line on the near side of the field and chipped a centering pass to the middle edge of the box. After a cut to the right, Stockton ripped a shot that took a slight deflection into the high frame of the net. Five minutes later, the home side looked to double their advantage, with SALANGE BELL notching a key stop.
  • In the 10th minute, Montclair found the equalizer, as CARLY GUZZARDO sent an in-swinging corner kick from the far side of the field that was flicked with a header by SHANNON MULLINS to the low far post. The Red Hawks tallied two more shots on goal over the next five minutes and eventually took the lead in the 22nd minute. Guzzardo played in another in-swinger from the far corner that was knocked down and sent past the keeper with a left-footed shot by KYLIE PRENDERGAST. Bell tallied a pair of saves over the remainder of the half to preserve the lead.
  • Montclair doubled its advantage six minutes into the second half, as Mullins collected a loose ball well outside of the box on the far side of the field and rocketed a shot by the keeper to the far post. The visitors pushed the margin to three in the 57th minute, as Guzzardo sent a service into the box that was initially shot by Mullins, but the rebound found the feet of Prendergast. The striker looped a pass across goal to MACKENZIE ALBERT, who finished the chance.
  • Bell was tested a minute after, coming up with another save before Mullins recorded another pair of shots in the 59th and 63rd minute. Stockton registered a shot on goal in the 77th minute, with Bell notching a save in the top left corner of the net. The Ospreys had just one shot on goal the rest of the way, as the Red Hawks sealed the NJAC road victory to remain unbeaten.
