Goal Contributions by Prendergast Leads Women’s Soccer Past Western Connecticut, 2-0

Danbury, Conn – The Montclair State University women's soccer (7-0-4) senior KYLIE PRENDERGAST contributed to both of the Red Hawks' goals on Wednesday night to lead them to a 2-0 win against Western Connecticut (8-5-1).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Wolves went on the attack early and generated an early corner opportunity in the first 30 seconds, but found nothing out of it. Montclair flipped the script and set up a corner in the second minute. Prendergast took the first shot of the game a minute later, but had it saved. It wasn't until the 19th minute that Montclair found the back of the net. Prendergast assisted SHANNON MULLINS at 19:30 time stamp for the 1-0 lead.
  • The Red Hawks kept Western Connecticut off the offensive side for the rest of the first half. Montclair had two more shots on goal down the stretch, but the shots were saved, and the match went 1-0 into the intermission.
  • MADELINE LESICA kicked off the second half with a shot on goal that was saved in the 49th minute. After both teams exchanged a flurry of shots, a yellow card issued to Western Connecticut led to a set piece, where Prendergast fired in a goal at the 79:03 mark to extend the lead to 2-0.
  • West Conn tallied two shots down the stretch, with one going wide and one being denied by SALANGE BELL in the 88th minute to secure the shutout and keep Montclair unbeaten on the season.

INSIDE THE RESULTS
  • Montclair's defense has been stellar this season. They've held seven of its 11 opponents to five or fewer shots in the game, with West Conn only seeing three shots tonight.
  • Bell made two saves tonight and earned her fifth shutout of the season.
  • With her goal, Mullins has now scored a goal in the last three contests.
