Cambridge, MA – The Montclair State University women's soccer team fell to Colby 2-0 in the First Round of the 2025 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Red Hawks (13-1-6) opened the game on the front foot, as SAMIRA LUKOVIC saw a header off a corner kick in the sixth minute go just high of the frame. A minute later, SHANNON MULLINS saw an attempt blocked before she put one on frame from distance in the 10th minute that had to be collected by the keeper. Colby countered with three shots over the next 10-plus minutes, as SALANGE BELL notched a stop of her own to keep the contest level.
- Both sides continued to trade chances, as KYLIE PRENDERGAST put a shot on goal in the 23rd minute, with Colby doing the same shortly after. The Mules began to push offensively, recording three shots over the next 16 minutes before they took the lead in the 40th minute on a shot tucked towards the left post. Neither side attempted a shot over the rest of the stanza, with Colby going into the break with the advantage.
- Montclair began to tilt the game offensively as the second half began, earning four corner kicks over the first 15 minutes, resulting in three shots with two coming from Lukovic. Colby doubled their advantage in the 65th minute, registering a corner kick with a shot opportunity shortly after. The Red Hawks searched to cut into the deficit immediately after, with Mullins pushing a header onto goal following a corner that was saved by the Mules.
- Prendergast rocketed a shot off the crossbar in the 74th minute, as Bell notched a pair of saves over the next five minutes. ISABELL KRONOW and CARLY GUZZARDO each tallied shot attempts in the 81st minute, with Bell being tested again four minutes later. Kronow saw an attempt go wide as the game came to a close, with Colby advancing to the Second Round.
INSIDE THE RESULTS
- The game marked Montclair's 20th game in the NCAA Tournament, making its 10th appearance in the competition and third over the last four seasons.
- Lukovic and Kronow led the way offensively for the Red Hawks with three shots each.
- Bell amassed five saves in net for Montclair. The two sides were level in shots with 13.
