#20 Men's Soccer Falls to TCNJ in NJAC Semifinals

Montclair, NJ The top-seeded Montclair State University men's soccer team fell to fourth-seeded The College of New Jersey 4-1 on Wednesday night in the 2025 New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinals on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (12-2-5) fell behind in the 14th minute on a shot from just inside the box on the right side. Montclair aimed for the equalizer, collecting four shots over the next 15 minutes, including an attempt on frame from TOMAS MONTEIRO in the 29th minute. GABE MENDEZ tallied a pair of shots over the next five minutes, with PIERRE SOUMEILLANT collecting a save in the waning moments of the first half to keep the margin at one at the break.
  • TCNJ doubled their lead in the 57th minute, as a run into the box and towards the near post turned into a centering pass and shot that was saved initially by Soumeillant, but the ball trickled past the line after hitting the post on the near side of the field. 10 minutes later, the Lions added their third of the night on another centering pass off a run from the far touch line that crossed into the edge of the box.
  • Montclair cut into the deficit shortly after, as KYLE MOORE settled a loose ball towards the end line on the far side of the box and rocketed a skipping pass that found the foot of DANNY TOBON, who sent a shot into the top bin of the net to the Red Hawks on the board. The Lions quickly countered with their fourth of the night on the ensuing possession to push the lead back to three.
  • The Red Hawks continued to push numbers forward over the final 15 minutes, collecting 12 shots. SEBASTIAN LAPCZYNSKI, Tobon, and Moore all notched shots on goal over a three-minute stretch, but the Lions tightened up defensively to seal the road postseason victory.
INSIDE THE RESULTS
  • Tobon tallied his ninth goal of the season, moving into a tie for the team lead.
  • Moore picked up his third assist of the campaign on the strike.
